Blog #6

I have had a fairly easy experience using Diigo thus far. After going over how to bookmark a website in class on Tuesday, I found that using the site was much easier than I had anticipated. It has been very interesting to see all of the websites that everyone has found about the digital divide, academic software, and Web 2.0. I like that you are able to annotate your articles through Diigo in order to point out important words or phrases that you want to share with your class. I also like that you can make different groups on the site. Diigo is definitely a very helpful website that allows students to compile a list of useful websites that are accurate, appropriate, and trustworthy.

I have had fun with blogging this semester. Before this class, I did not have any experience using Blogger or with blogging in general. Blogger has been a great way to write and post blogs and I have found that all of the parts of the Blogger site have been very easy to use, including adding gadgets and creating the actual blog site. It has been fun to craft my blog into something that reflects my aesthetic and personality. I have definitely learned more about web design and how to make a site visually pleasing and it has been fun to be able to express myself through both my posts and my blog setup. The only thing that I have not liked about blogging is that sometimes when I go to comment on my peers' posts, the comment does not save or does not show up at all. It probably has something to do with the website, but that has been a little frustrating.

One Web 2.0 tool that I would love to use in my future classroom is Pinterest. There are so many great resources on Pinterest that are useful for both teachers and students. I worked at a Pre-K summer camp last summer and we used Pinterest to find fun arts and crafts for the kids to do during the week and it was a great resource to have available! As far as using it in the classroom goes, I could have my students make their own accounts so they have a way to brainstorm ideas for different projects or activities that we do throughout the year. I could also use the site to find lesson plans, classroom activities, crafts, etc. that would help me in equipping my students for success and in creating a fun, interactive classroom environment.

  1. Hi!
I totally agree, I as well have had a lot of fun blogging this semester. I think it is a great way to get everything out and just have a nice stream of thought. The prompts and questions always let you put in your opinions and I think that is unique and different from most classes in college. Blogger is really easy to use and it a great way to show your personality. Even though I am technologically challenged most of the time I like how the website is set up. I look forward to blogging and seeing everyone's posts in the future!

  2. Hi Katie!

That's super weird that your comments sometimes don't save, hopefully that doesn't keep happening. I personally haven't been too enthused with blogging during this semester, but it may just be because I'm subconsciously viewing it as work and not putting in as much effort or creativity. Were I to blog of my own volition I think I'd enjoy it more. I've actually been using Pinterest for a few years! I mostly just use it to create boards for different fandoms I enjoy, and I find that a lot more enjoyable than blogging for this class, so I suppose that proves my previous idea on blogging lol.
