For my ELA standard, I chose to look at the fifth-grade level because I feel as though fifth graders are at an age where they can understand more complex technologies. After looking through the list of standards, I would say that LAFS.5.RL.3.7 is the one that I would feel the most comfortable implementing into my classroom, given my current skill set. The standard states that students must be able to interpret the meaning or tone of a text through the use of different technological elements, including presentations, online posters, etc. I would be able to incorporate this standard into my classroom by creating different PowerPoint or Google Slide presentations that integrate different fonts, transitions, sounds, etc. into the meaning of different texts that we may be talking about. I would also be able to use websites, such as Canva, to create online posters that would help students visualize the meaning of texts. This is a very valuable standard to incorporate into the classroom because it allows students to get creative with different texts and use their imagination to come up with a visualization of how they interpret different texts.
When looking through the CPALMS Educator Toolkit, I came across a fifth-grade science lesson that would be perfect to incorporate into my class. The lesson was on electric circuits and was presented via an interactive PowerPoint presentation. It had many different animations, pictures, and transitions that made it super fun to watch, which is perfect for fifth-graders. While I wouldn't use the exact presentation, I could use it to get some ideas about how to make my own lesson/presentation.
As a student growing up a digital native, I would say that I am a proficient internet searcher. I use the internet quite often to search the web or research different things for my classes, which has definitely helped strengthen my internet searching abilities. However, I did enjoy learning about the deeper types of internet searching during our class on Tuesday. It is so interesting that there are so many easy ways that you can find things online and so quickly! Being a proficient internet searcher as a teacher is definitely important. Teachers use the internet for many different things in the classroom, including activities and lesson plan ideas, and the more proficient you are, the more resources you will be able to find. Moving forward, I will definitely be using the Google Advanced search for specific file types. That is such a helpful tool to know about when researching different events throughout history or trying to find specific resources. As far as other internet searching skills, I do not have many others, but I am excited to be able to grow my skills using the ones mentioned in class!
